.The supreme aim of the department of Public Library is community
development and the Public Libraries are called as the people’s university. They are
working as the Information & Technology and Cultural Centres Also the Public Libraries
are working as the continuing education centers.
The Departmental motto is to provide free reading facilities to the
common public, by its all Public Libraries in Karnataka.

Providing Free Reading of News Papers,
Periodicals, Books and Reference materials in all subjects in the form of Books, T.V.,
VCR, Computers, CD and Floppy’s also.

Opening of Gram Panchayat Libraries in
every village Gram Panchayat areas in the district.

This department is having the scheme of
Opening the well-equipped "Children Libraries" in Urban and district head
quarters.

The Karwar District Central Library is the
first in Karnataka having all books classified and computerized by the help of NIC, Karwar
& Bangalore by installing e-Granthalaya Software. Now, providing better service to the
citizens of Karwar and nearby villages.

The Karwar District Central Library is
also having the Children Library wing here, and running Career Guidance Centre in premises
of this Library. The students appearing for IAS, KAS, & IPS are taking best use of it
and it has benefited employment seekers also.

constituted in 1965 under the Karnataka Public Libraries Act 1965, with a Director of
Public Libraries as its head and the Chief Librarian is the District Head
