II.                 Role of the department in the district:

Main role of the department is to expand the area under mulberry and improve the production and productivity of the Seri culturists. The extension activity in the form of training, technical and financial support to the farmers through Technical Service Centre and Extn. Cum Chawki rearing centers in the district.   The other important role of the department is to get good quality disease free layings(egs) and market support.

III.             Schemes executed by the Department/

             A. Zilla panchayat schemes:

 

1. Farms:  Minimum maintenance of the Govt. Silk Farm where mulberry leaves produced are used for chawki rearing (i.e. young silk worm rearing up to IInd moult).  New variety of mulberry saplings(nursery)  are being raised at this farm for free propagation in the district.

2.        Exebition, Publicity, Field days and Audio visual aids:  Scheme itself envisages field days are conducting for creating aware in sericulture.  Publishing literature of the departmental schemes and benefits, conducting exhibitions at public functions like Karavali festival, Kadamba utfsva and Sonda utsva, etc.,

3.        Traing:  5 days training will be imparting to the farmers both men and women for refreshing the skill and latest developments in the sericulture rearing technology.
4.        Assistance to the farmers:  Promote adoption of disease controlling measures like bed and floor disinfectants inf silk worm rearing micronutrients, bio-fertilizers and growth promoters etc., will be supply to the farmers at the free of cost.

 

B. Taluka panchayat schemes

 

1.                Assistance for construction of rearing house/ reeling shed:  In this    scheme 50% assistance will be giving for construction of rearing house/ reeling shed on for with the Catalytic Development Programme guidelines.
2.                Special component programme:  In this scheme financial assistance will be giving for SC/ST farmers for development of mulberry garden and rearing equipments as per the unit cost fixed by the Head office.

IV.             STATE SECTOR SCHEMES 

1.        Reshme Varadana Yojane:  To promote plantation of new mulberry variety and replacement of old gardens to new variety mulberry gardens assistance of  Rs. 5000/- per acre assistance will be given to the small and marginal farmers, women farmers and SC/ST farmers and handicapped farmers.  After the garden is established and maintained up to 4 months.

2.        Catalytic Development Programme:  Karnataka State Plan and Central Silk Board are jointly encouraging the Sericulturists by financial assistance to adopt new technologies and improve production and productivity of Bivoltine Silk in the state.  There are many schemes are under implementation.

b)     Drip IrrigationThe effective method of water conservation can done by the method of drip irrigation to the mulberry plants where in subsidy component of 75% of the unit cost met under this scheme.

 

c)     Purchase of equipments:  To propagate new technology for higher production and productivity and to reduce cost of production in silk worm rearing and for the cultural operations in the fields

There are many types of equipment identified and rates have been fixed with the different firms for each equipment the lowest rate of the equipment is considered for subsidy of 75% under these schemes to the maximum extent of Rs. 30000/ hectare.

  d)   Special Component Plan Schemes:  To facilitate SC/ST farmers (Seri culturists) a special schemes are available for the development of existing gardens other than all other schemes which are common to all.
